What is this bright purple, grape-sized lump on my dog's shoulder?

My dog has a lump on her left shoulder. It is bright purple and about the size of a grape. What could this be?

This looks like a mass in the skin, it could be a reaction to infection, a benign tumour such as a skin tag or a cancerous tumour. I would get it tested by your vet to decide the bedt course of action.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. From the picture, I would suspect this to be one of two things as first suspicion. A hemangioma (benign cutaneous mass) or a hemangiosarcoma (malignant mass). Most of the time, the hemangioma will turn into a hemangiosarcoma if not removed. I would have this looked at because the sooner you remove this the better. This could also be a different type of mass but this is my suspicion. Until further testing is performed, it is difficult to say 100% what this could be. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. my pet dog Ricky has had a lump about 1.5cm wide grown on his hind legs armpit. It's a little hard and it's purplish in colour, can see some veins on the exterior skin. what is the probable cause base on the photos?

This loos like a mass and should get tested by your vet to see if tihs is cancerous or not. Due to the color it worries me for possible cancer, so further testing is highly recommended here. It could be a benign lesion, cyst, infection, papilloma, etc. The best thing would be to have your vet take a look at it. Your vet can do a fine needle aspirate, if needed, to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat.

In a young dog, this lump is likely a cyst, a lipoma, or benign tumor. Any suspicious lump should be examined by a vet. The vet can do a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines them under the microscope. It's relatively quick to do, and usually painless for the dog. Given that it's been growing larger, I would have your dog examined by a vet tomorrow.

This may be an abscess, a cyst or a tumor. You should have it examined by your veterinarian, as it is not possible to distinguish these by just looking at a photo. An abscess can usually be treated with antibiotics and/or be lanced, and a cyst can be evacuated. To identify a tumor, your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning.

It looks like it could be a skin tag. You can monitor it for rapid change or growth. If necessary, your veterinarian can perform a fine needle aspirate to collect samples for pathology or simply remove it and submit it for biopsy.

To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I hope this helps!
