My new dog snapped at baby. Is it safe to keep him or should I return?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 20 lbs

We just picked up a 1 year old dog last night. He seems to get along wonderfully with everyone in our family, except we got him home and he violently tried to snap at the baby twice. I'm wondering if there's anything we can do or if we should just bring the dog back. I don't know if it was just dress or if he can be trained out of it, but obviously our baby comes first.

That is very concerning and I, personally, don't think it is worth the risk to your baby. I don't think you will ever be able to trust him around your baby and it might even get worse as the baby gets older and starts running around and pulling on the dog. I would take the dog back and find another dog that is more tolerant of babies.
