Dog has spots like bug bites, but not fleas. Could it be blackheads?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 5 years and 2 months old | 26 lbs

I found these little spots on my dog today and took him to his trainer because I was concerned. She said it looks like several little bug bites. I was concerned about it being fleas but she didn't think it was. He has been consistently on bravecto.

These appear to possibly be blackheads. They are caused by clogged pores on Bruno's skin. You can try using Stridex pads to wipe the area and flush the follicle. However, if they are not causing any pain or irritation, you can chose to just monitor them for now. However, if they become irritating to Bruno, then a vet visit is advised. I don't suspect a flea problem to be the underlying cause of these at all, so you are ok to continue using Bravecto as needed. Best wishes and take care.
