My dog threw up after hernia surgery. Is it her pain medication?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

My dog had hernia surgery 5 days ago. She has been recovering nicely and doesn't seem to be in any pain. Today however, she threw up 3 times in less than a minute. She is in a pain pill and an anxiety pill to keep her from jumping around, could this be the cause or should I be concerned?

Some pain medications can cause stomach upset. If Olive continues to vomit, I would recommend stopping the pain medication and contacting your veterinarian. Other potential causes for vomiting include eating something irritating to the intestinal tract, infections or metabolic problems such as kidney or liver disease.
