What is the safe amount of formula for tube feeding a newborn puppy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

What is the stomach capacity of a newborn doberman puppy that weighs approximately 16 oz in regards to tube feeding. What size would the stomach be in regards to tubing them so that they are not given too much formula introduced into their stomach. I would just like to know what size the stomach is so that the puppies are not overfed and cause aspiration back up through and into the airway

As a general rule with tube feeding you give 1ml per ounce. I would be inclined to give 10 to 12mls and see how you get on. You should only tube feed puppies that are too weak to suckle. If the puppies are stonger i wiuld take the time to bottle feed them as there are so fewer potential complications.
