Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 10 lbs
My dog is skinny and throws up hairballs every now and then. Why is that? He's very energetic and doesn't have any health conditions.

Hi, I'm Dr. Johnson. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Causes of chronic vomiting and poor weight gain are: intestinal parasites, digestive disorders and malabsorption of nutrients, chronic obstructions from eating something that is stuck, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) which can be from food allergies, addison's disease (decreased steroid production from the adrenal glands) and many other things. You can try simply changing his food to a novel protein diet. Chicken is the most common allergy a dog can have to food. You could try a fish, venison or duck diet. If you choose to do this then you can't give him people food or any treats that don't contain that special protein. Also dropping of a stool sample to your Vet is easy. Otherwise getting him looked at by your Vet if he hasn't been see in a while is always a good idea. Good luck
