My dog has a painful lump on his paw pad. How can I help it heal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | neutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 20 lbs

We have a miniature schnauzer who has a lump developing on the back side of one of his front pads on his front left paw. We take him running daily but he has not been ablessed to walk on it for the past week so we have been trying to keep it sprayed with liquid bandaid. What else might I be able to do to help it heal?

Hi, I'm Dr. Johnson. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Shadow! I would rest him-not running until the foot has healed. My concern is that the lump is an infection from something stuck in pad. I recommend taking him to the Vet to have them look at it. He may need the lump lanced (opened up) and/or antibiotics and pain meds. Good luck
