Why does my puppy have red, scabby lumps after running in grass?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Whippet | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 14 days old

Our 6 months old whippet has come up with red lumps which started under his fore leg and he now has some on his tummy, around his genitalia and now 2 on his neck. He has been running in long grass....... what could it be? They seem to be red then develop puss and then scab over. He is ok in himself but trying to gnaw at them a little.

It is most likely a superficial pyoderma. This is a skin infection. Dogs can get this from allergies and skin irritation. I recommend trying a medicated shampoo with anti histamine. However if they are not improving I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian for antibiotics.
