Why is my dog's face still swollen and bumpy after vet treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | 15.3 lbs

My dogs face got swollen yesterday at 7 PM. I took her to the vet today because I saw that her face was still swollen. They gave her a steroid shot and some pills. Her face keeps on getting swollen and she keeps getting bumps on her head. Everything seems OK though because she's been eating and drinking water regularly like she does. Those numbs on her head really worry me!

Hi there. Poor Rossi! The steroid shot and pills (I am assuming an antihistamine?) should be bringing down most of the swelling by now. If your pup is still edematous (swollen) and more bumps are forming-I urge you to take her back in for further evaluation as a sever reaction from her inciting sting or bite may be going on. I am glad she is still eating and drinking normally, this is a good sign-patients are just usually not so swollen this far out. She may need additional dosages of medications to help her. I hope she feels better soon!
