My dog's spay: Does heat cycle timing matter? How long is surgery?

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 11 months old | 17 lbs

Aubree is getting spayed on tuesday she is a four year old yorkie silkie, but i cant remember the last time she had her period it was either march or april cant really remember is this a problem? can they still go on with the surgery? also about how long does surgery last my morkie got neureted a month ago and it was pretty fast.

Most veterinarians do not like performing a spay surgery when the previous heat cycle occurred within the last 30-40 days. It sounds like that is not likely to be the case. The reason for this is become the uterus and ovaries tend to be much more difficult to handle and vulnerable to tearing during surgical removal. The speed of the surgical procedure is largely dependent upon the surgical approach, the tools available, and the skill of the surgeon. I have seen spays done in 5-10 minutes while I have seen some doctors take an hour and a half. Hope this helps.
