My dog had AIHA. How likely is recurrence? What symptoms to watch for?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Male | neutered | 6 years and 6 months old

We took on a 6 year old Cocker Spaniel in March and were told he had AIHA, he isn't on any medication at all now. How likely is he to have another episode? What should i watch for?

There is no way of predicting the likelihood of recurrence. Signs of anaemia to watch out for however are reduced exercise tolerance, unexplained lethargy or abdominal pain, pale eyelids/gums, cold feet and ears or yellow discolouration of urine/eyes/gums
