My cat isn't eating and seems sick. When should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 years and 5 months old

My cat doesn't seem to be acting right. He didnt eat much of his morning meal and won't eat his lunch or even his snacks. This is not normal so it's concerning

Whiskey is such a handsome cat! Look at those gorgeous eyes! I can understand being concerned about it, but anorexia is a very general sign of illness. It can be caused by dental problems, systemic illness, inflammation, infection, or injury. It's also concerning when a cat goes too long without eating (about 72 hours) as they will develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. It's best to avoid this, so I would try to tempt him to eat with some boiled white meat chicken (no bones), and if he refuses to eat that, take him into the vet in the morning for a health check. I hope this helps!
