Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | unspayed | 11 years old | 20 lbs
Good morning. I was told by our local vet that my eleven yr old Jack Russell has a "pea-sized: tumor/growth in her mammary area. This was spotted during her last stay at the kennel while we were on vacation 7/2-7/9. She had also been there from May 3-8 in which no growth was noticed at that time. She has not been spayed, fyi..A proceudre to remove the growth and have it looked at to be benign/malignant has been suggested. Question: can the procedure wait until 8/21 (5 weeks away)?

It is always ideal to address masses fairly quickly because there is a chance that Slider's mass may grow or spread in the next 5 weeks if it is malignant. Fortunately, half of mammary masses in dogs are benign. If you are unable to have the surgery performed until 8/21, it is unlikely to be of a significant concern. Simply monitor the mass for changes, including growth, ulceration, or irritation, and call your vet if any changes are observed. I hope that all goes well!
