My cat has diarrhea right after eating new food. Should I go back?

My cat seems to poop immediately after everytime he eat S but the stool is almost water like i recently changed his food. Should i go back to his old brand?

Hi, I'm Dr. Johnson. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Peaches! Diarrhea can be from a sudden food change and intolerance to the new food. If you changed the food abruptly then he just may have not had time to adjust. I would recommend changing him back to the original food until his stool is normal then if you still want to try the new food, change it slowly. If the diarrhea returns he can not tolerate the new food. Other causes of diarrhea in young kittens are parasites, viruses and bacterial infections. If the diarrhea persists, he starts vomiting or stops eating he should be seen by your Veterinarian! Good luck!

    Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The diarrhoea is likely caused by abrupt change in her diet. It will not make Cleopatra prone to bacterial or viral infections as long as you keep her indoors and away from other cats. The diarrhea will possibly be self-limiting and your kitten should be back to normal in 2-3 days. However, if she continues to pass watery stools or starts to vomit, you should get her checked over by your local vets.

    Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Did your Vet give you any medications for the diarrhea? Personally I recommend stopping the new food and go back to the old food if it causing diarrhea. Has Skye's stool been tested for intestinal parasites and has she been dewormed? The diarrhea may not resolve if she is sensitive or allergic to this new food. I would switch her back to the old food and once her stool is normal, slowly add in the new food to see if the diarrhea returns. I wish you the best!
