My dog is hiding, won't eat, and has a runny nose. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Japanese Chin | Female | spayed | 2 years and 6 months old | 27 lbs

My dog is a Japanese Chin mix about 27 pounds female and has been fixed . My dog has started laying underneath the bed all day. She's lost all appetite and I can't get her to eat. Her nose is dry but it is running to the point to where it is dripping. I'm just wondering if I need to take her into a vet

I would recommend Oreo see a veterinarian for examination and blood work to start. Anorexia, or loss of appetite in animals is usually a sign of systemic illness, on a rare occasion it can be do to oral pain (usually from severe periodontal disease in small breed dogs). You know her best, so if she seems to be off in some way to you I always say that is reason enough to investigate. Hope this helps and Oreo feels better soon,
