When can my puppy get her shots after recovering from flu?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 5 days old | 6 lbs

I adopted a rescue puppy and she was diagnosed with pup flu a week ago. How long after she gets better do I need to wait before I get her puppy shots? I was told by foster to wait for vaccines until she is better but unsure how long.

I recommend double checking with your primary vet since they know more about her specific history, but I would wait until she is symptom free and back to her normal self for a week before vaccinating. Hope this helps!

I would recomend a follow up checkup with your vet then decide together when she should receive her next vaccines. You don't want her to wait too long putting her at risk of other diseases, but she needs to be healthy to be vaccinated. A check up and exam will help guide that decision and make sure she is recovering approriately. Good luck with your new pup!
