What can I give my 7-month puppy who bites and chews everything?

My puppy is 7 months and he is biting everything around the house. Do you have any suggestions on what to give him for that?

This is very common for this age since they are starting to lose their baby teeth and get their adult teeth at this time. Make sure he has plenty of chew toys and bones to play with. I like plain flat raw hides. They can have one a day. If there is something particular he is chewing on, you can put a dab of Tabasco or bitter apple spray to prevent the chewing. This will sometimes helps. When you aren't able to monitor him I would put him in a crate so he doesn't chew something that might harm him. Give him some time as he won't feel the need to do this forever. I hope this helps!

He is teething. This is normal. If there are things around you don't want him to put in his mouth it is best to not leave them where he can get them. Also, getting some teething specific toys may be helpful. It's very normal for puppies this age to want to bite and use their mouths a lot - as you said, he's teething right now. This behavior will go away on its own as he gets older, but there are some things you can do in the meantime to help. Make sure that he has a variety of different toys to provide an appropriate outlet for this behavior - long floppy rope or fleece toys for tugging, plush toys for biting and carrying, and smaller toys or balls for chasing and fetching. You should also provide lots of options for chewing - things like bully sticks, cow or pig ears, rawhide chews, and puzzle toys like a Kong stuffed with peanut butter. If he bites you during play, just redirect him to one of his toys and use that to play with him instead. If you are petting him and he bites your hands, calmly stop petting and ignore him until he settles down. In most dogs, this behavior diminishes quite a bit after 6-7 months of age - so just be patient and consistent right now while he learns

I have a 9 week old lab puppy. How do I get him to chew on his chew toys and not on me? I even went as far as buying rawhide chews even though I don’t like giving my animals them. Any advice would be greatly appreciate.
Keep in mind that it is perfectly appropriate for a 9 week old puppy to be exploring his world by chewing everything in sight, and for most dogs it is a phase that will resolve as long as you don't unintentionally encourage the behavior. You should have plenty of appropriate chew toys (rawhides are okay as long as he isn't biting off large pieces) to give him whenever he is chewing on you or something he shouldn't. If he nips you, make a loud high pitched noise, give him an appropriate chew and remove your attention. If he keeps trying to bite at you he may need to go somewhere quiet. It will seem like you're not making any progress for awhile but eventually he'll catch on.

It is not uncommon for puppies to want to bite things they shouldn't (like furniture or your hands) while they are teething and learning to explore the world around them.. However, this behavior should be discouraged. Hiding your hands behind your back every time she tries to bite and be sure to always redirect with a tactile chew toy. You can also try spraying bitter apple spray on objects around the house she likes to chew on to discourage her from continuing to chew on them. Yes you can purchase him teething toys from your local pet store. Typically these are toys that you place in the freezer that can help soothe the gums as the teeth erupts. Teething usually stops completely around 6 months of age.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Puppies are teething around the ages of 3-6 months, which makes them interested in biting anything and everything at times! Ensure that he has appropriate, safe toys for him to chew on, such as rubber Kongs filled with treats or peanut butter, and rope toys. You can also try putting these toys in the freezer, which some puppies like as it helps soothe their irritated gums.
When Shadow tries to bite you, give a firm "ow" or "no". Never hit him or use any other form of physical punishment. Instead, offer him his chew toy to play with on his own. Walk away, cross your arms and legs and do not give him any further attention. If this does not work, you may need to find a toy that is more rewarding for him, such as putting something even more tasty into the toy.
The good news is that teething will finish by 6 months, so this should be a temporary behaviour. However, we want to teach Shadow what is appropriate to chew on, and what is not.

It can always be tough with a new puppy. Some chewing is normal with a young puppy however it is important to start trying to control the behavior now. I would recommend when Blue starts to bite to replace it with something he can chew on. Also, I would recommend starting with some basic training. This would be sit, stay and come. That way when Blue starts to bite you he can be re-directed with the commands. I hope that helps

Play biting and being excessively "mouthy" is very common in puppies. I have not personally had luck with the techniques of saying "No!" or holding the muzzle. I that makes puppies more excited. My general rule for puppies is that you make a high pitched squeak (like a littermate puppy would do if they bit too hard), then walk away from the situation. More than anything, your puppy wants to play with you. If you walk away, it is negative reinforcement, so they are less likely to do that behavior again. Depending on the puppy, the goal is to get them to look away from you or start doing something else before you engage in play again. I found that a long rope toy made a good toy to play with my puppy because there was lots of toy for him to bite at without touching my skin. I also found that allowing him to play with other dogs was a great way for him to learn what was appropriate play. The best thing to do is to make a loud, high pitched noise when he bites you and then give him a toy or chew that is appropriate for chewing. You can invest is different chew toys such as the elk antlers or water buffalo horns as they are stronger and more durable than raw hides. Kong also has good products for large breed puppies that you can fill with their different flavor sprays to make chewing a little more challenging therefore they do not get bored as easily. It is important to rotate the toys so he doesn't always have the same ones or he will get bored. When he bites you or something that is not allowed, you have to be consistent and tell him no then replace it with something that is appropriate until her learns the difference
