My dog's penis is stuck out for over an hour. Is this an emergency?

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | neutered | 17 lbs

I have a Maltese terrier mix who is just over a year old. At 12:26 a.m. I noticed that his penis was extended from the sheath and looked to be hyperextended and possibly injured. We looked up ways to fix this and were told to put a damp cloth on it. This worked for the most part but a portion of the penis has still been out of the sheath for over an hour.

Hi, I'm Dr Johnson. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Yoda! I'm very concerned by the picture you posted. Paraphimosis (penis stuck out) can be serious if the penis is swollen and purple like that. It shouldn't be out for more than an hour. You need to get Yoda to the Vet ASAP. They may have to sedate him or use lube and sugar to get his penis back in the prepuce! I wish you the best of luck!
