Dog bleeding, eating, drinking. Can I give more electrolytes at night?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | neutered | 10 years and 2 months old | 37 lbs

My dog is on electrolytes and they said to give him 10ml every hour. Can I give him more than 10ml for through out he night. He's not impressed about me waking him up. He threw up blood on Friday and then pooped blood yesterday. Eating and drinking. He has a CBC and he may be destroying his own blood cells. He has some odd bruising around his belly. They said to give him all the medication and wait and see. If he had a bleed would he still eat and drink?

I am so sorry to hear of Boomer's condition. It certainly sounds like he is quite ill. I would suspect your vet recommended small amounts of liquids frequently so as to not overload Boomer's stomach if he has been nauseous and vomiting. You could try giving a little more and see how he tolerates it. Do they suspect IMHA (immune mediated hemolytic anemia) as the cause for Boomer's symptoms? This typically makes the pet feel quite sick, though I have seen dogs in the early stages who are still eating and drinking. If Boomer wants to eat then that is great-it will help him keep his strength up. Good luck, I hope he responds to his medication and starts to improve soon IMHA is a serious condition and treatment often is quite prolonged and sometimes not successful.
