My cat's leg is swollen, he won't put weight on it. Broken? Euthanasia?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 5 lbs

About 3 months ago I found Jack with his back leg with multiple wounds(I am guessing neighbor dog) he would not let us touch his legs. The wounds have healed but he won't put wait on one. I am worried that it is broken. It is pretty swollen. My mom and dad say I should just put him down( he is a barn cat) but if I pay for it he can have a surgery. Do you think I should put him down ,have surgery or is there something I can do to help? Should his leg get amputated?

I think the best thing is to have him examined by a vet to determine the exact cause and best way to treat. He could just have an infection and need an antibiotic. If there is a fracture then it may heal with a splint. Without knowing the exact cause, it is difficult to know the best way to proceed. I don't think you can make a decision on putting him down without knowing exactly what is wrong with him. Your vet can take an x-ray and then recommend the best way to treat. It would also be a good idea to have him neutered.
