It my be normal molting and feathers will come in soon. It could also be indicative of infection or nutritional deficiency. Have him examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating birds to diagnose illness or injury. Review the diet to make sure it is balanced and biologically appropriate. Provide a cage large enough to prevent rubbing of the tail and wings against the bars as Peter moves around. Bathe or mist him several times weekly with warm water (NO soap) to promote healthy plumage.

Losing a feather or two is perfectly normal and not a direct indication of any illness, however making sure he is on a balanced diet of pellets in addition to seeds and fruits can help. He may also be starting to molt, which is where a bird loses their old feathers and new ones grow in. This is very normal, as long as new feathers are growing back in to replace the old. If you see any additional signs of illness, or the new feathers don't grow back in, then scheduling a vet visit to rule out any health issues is always a good idea.
