Is it normal for my dog's mouth to turn pink when excited or happy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 78 lbs

So I was just wondering, I noticed that when my pit bull gets really excited or happy the color around her mouth like on the bottom, starts to turn more pink and then when she's done being excited her mouth turns back to its regular color. Is it normal for dogs mouths to turn more pink when they get excited?

This type of "blushing" is normal and is no cause for concern. It is the blood vessels in the mouth responding to excitement and dilating causing the redness. When she settles, the vessels construct and color returns to normal.
