Why is my puppy with an ear infection so sleepy and distant?

My puppy was diagnosed with an ear infection a day ago. He was scratching at his ears and whimpering very badly.. After starting his medicine, he seems calm. BUT.. he usually is hyper, playful, and loves to cuddle with me, he hasn't since the ear ache started.. instead he's been sleeping a lot and being very distant. is this behavior normal for a sick puppy? Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 7 days old | 3.2 lbs

Hi there. Poor Miles! It is common for them to exhibit "sick behavior" when they feel ill just like us. He probably doesn't feel up to playing right now-and many ear infections can come with a fever which will increase lethargy. If he is still eating and drinking I am apt to worry less. If he continues to just lie around listlessly I would take him back to your doctor to make she he is parasite free (especially intestinal parasites) and that he doesn't need systemic antibiotics.
