What can I put on my dog's open, bleeding lump to prevent infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Portuguese Water Dog | Female | spayed | 13 years and 3 months old | 55 lbs

My dog has a lump on her leg we have had it tested and they said it is not a mass cell tumor. It does have some open wounds on the lump. We had to cover it up because it was bleeding. Not sure what we can put on open sores? I am taking her to the vet on Thursday but in the meantime just don't want it to get super infected can you help

You can use neosporin to put on the wounds twice a day. Also make sure she isn't licking it as this can make it worse. When you wrap it, be sure not to wrap it too tight to cut off blood circulation. I hope this helps.
