My old rabbit won't eat. Is Reglan safe for gut stasis and head tilt?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | spayed | 11 years and 2 months old | 2.5 lbs

Our 11 year old rabbit has stopped eating and pooping in the last 6 hours, and has a head tilt. We have had her on critical care, Beytril and metacam for the past 9 days. Would you recommend we start giving her Metaclopramide Reglan (a gut stimulus)? Are there potential side effects?

If Beanie is not eating it is very likely she has gut stasis, any cases of gut stasis I see I give metclopramide to every 8 hours as it gets the gut going again. I would not be concerned about side effects as they are more to do with diarrohea, and at this point it is more important her gut gets moving. However, if it has been this long she may need IV fluids to help her. The head tilt may be e.cunniculi.
