My dog keeps getting hurt at daycare. When to pull him or see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 9 days old

I recently enrolled my dog at daycare (m-f / he's only been there for a week). On Sat I noticed a cut on his back circular open wound it looked like it started to get infected since I saw some yellowing. The next day I saw that it was starting to heal and didn't look at severe. Today (Monday) my boyfriend picked him up from daycare and noticed that there was a scratch on his face as there was some blood smudged on his fur. Should I take him out of daycare and visit the vet for the wound?

If the wound has a discharge and is not getting getter, than he should go to the vet for further care. If it has scab, you can monitor it for any changes. Group play is a part of day care so injuries and some illness are to be expected, similar to children at day care. I would talk with the day care place and ask about how rough the play is and maybe they can let him out with a different group of dogs to help before completely removing him. It may also help to neuter him as the aid in calming them.

Hi, sorry to hear this happened. I would use your best judgement about taking him out of day care. If the wound is infected, red swollen or has discharge, he should go to the vet. It is possible he got into some scuffles with other dogs because he is not neutered and coming into sexual maturity. Males may fight over females or dominance when they are sexually mature. I would make sure your day care is licensed and has good ratings. The should be watching the dogs carefully when they interact and let you know of any potential problems or scuffles they might have. If they are not doing this, you may want to find a different day care. But many dogs will have disagreements, there is no way to predict that. Neutering him will help with his, if that is something you will consider. Good luck, i hope this helps!
