My chihuahua has high liver numbers. Are 3 antibiotics safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 11 years and 4 months old

Hello. My dog has high liver numbers and was prescribed 3antibiotics and liver performance pill. Amoxicillin, flagyl, and baytril. 3 antibiotics seemed like a lot&I would just like to know if this sounds right or how common it is for 3? She's an 12.5 pound chihuahua.

Your vet must be very concerned about Sadie's liver since she is on so many antibiotics. Without knowing exactly what is going on it's hard for me to say whether the medications are appropriate or not. I can tell you that the antibiotics prescribed will cover a broad spectrum of bacteria, which is probably why your vet chose those specific drugs. If you have questions about the specific diagnosis we could set up a consult to discuss the blood work finding and treatment options more thoroughly.
