Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 4 years and 1 month old
My cat is gagging when he yawns. He coughed up a little bit of white foam a few days ago and since then it's like he's trying to get up a hair ball or be sick but nothing is coming out. It's mainly when he yawns or try's to play. He's eating normal and acting normal otherwise. He's 4 years old. And an outdoors cat.

Boots could have some foreign material (like grass) stuck in the back of his throat, or something like a polyp causing irritation. Feline asthma can also cause a cough that can sound similar to hairball. I would recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian - they may recommend chest x-rays and potentially sedation to take a good look in the back of his throat.
