Can my new puppy go outside safely before second vaccinations?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Giant Schnauzer | Male | neutered | 20 days old

Hi there, I'm getting a new puppy soon, he will be 8 weeks and wont have had his second vaccination. I heard it was okay for them to go outside as long as they aren't on the ground and don't come into contact with other animals. Is this true? Because I'd like to take him outside in a carrier before his second vaccination? Is it also okay to let him into the back garden to use the toilet and play? Thanks

If he's in a carrier and not in contact with other pets with unknown vaccine history, or on strange ground it should be OK. If the garden area is your own private residence area, and no other dogs frequent it, it should be OK to let Django out to potty and play on it.
