My puppy has a sudden rash on her stomach. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 24 days old | 15 lbs

Hey, my puppy has a rash on her stomach that as far as I can tell developed in the last couple hours. She doesn't seem irritated or anything and isn't scratching it. But it doesn't look good. Any ideas?!

She could be having an acute allergic reaction to something such as grass or some type of chemical on the ground. You can try washing her off using a mild cleanser such is Dawn dish soap or oatmeal-based pet shampoo. If it doesn't clear up within 8 to 12 hours then I would recommend having your veterinarian do an exam. In the meantime if you start scratching or itching at it you'll need to stop her as that could cause a secondary bacterial infection.

IF chantilly is breathing and acting normal I would recommend trying to take her to a vet tomorrow. At any time if she is vomiting, breathing abnormally or very uncomfortable I would recommend taking her to an emergency clinic. I hope that Chantilly just came into contact with an irritant that has caused a contact allergy. This could be anything inside or outside that caused her to have a rash on her stomach. You can start her on an over the counter anti histamines to decrease the redness and help if she becomes itchy. Other possibilities are allergies, skin infection or bleeding disorder (which is not common).
