How to stop my dog from scratching his neck wound until it bleeds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pointer | Male

My friend is watching a dog for a couple and the dog has an ulcer on his neck. He keeps scratching at it and opening the wound til it bleeds. The couple's vet have them a orange cream to stop him from doing this but it isn't working. Is there something else that can help it

Applying a triple antibiotic on the wound and a turtle neck shirt bandage ( just like it sounds...a turtle neck shirt and covering the area so he cannot scratch it) can be helpful. Depending on the severity of the wound it may also need oral antibiotics so I always urge people to have these seen. Hope this help you!
