Kitten struggling to breathe, vet says no hope. What are my options?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 7 days old | 1.2 lbs

I have a 12 week old kitten that a vet told me either has an extremely large tumor all around its heart or pnemonia. He prescribed Baytril, but said to prepare for it to die and there is nothing else to be done. The kitten will play. She has a good appetite. She just has periods where she struggles to breathe, even to the point of panting. Is here anything I can do to help it? Chemo? Surgery?

I'm so sorry that you have gotten this diagnosis for Asha! I would have her seen by another vet for a second opinion as soon as possible. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain something else could be done, but having another vet see her is best. They may be able to give a more definitive diagnosis and offer other treatment options.
