Why is my puppy's skin spot on his back getting worse and bigger?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 30 lbs

My puppy came in one day with a spot on his back that looked like he had played to rough and tore the skin off. It looked like it was healing but now looks worse and seems to be getting bigger. What could it be?

Depending on Thor's age it could be demodectic mange, which is caused by a mite in the skin. It may be itchy as well, and he would need to see a veterinarian for treatment. It typically affects young dogs, but isn't contagious. Other possibilities would be ringworm or an allergy. If it's not improving on its own or getting worse I would see a vet.
