My cat just had kittens, why isn't she going to the bathroom?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed

My cat Athena,I don't think she's even a year old yet, gave birth to five kittens Thursday morning at 5am. The kittens are doing fine, and she is eating/drinking/acting normal, my only concern is she has yet to go to the bathroom once since she gave birth.. Is this normal or should I be concerned?? Thank you!! Sarah

If it's Saturday where you live and Athena hasn't gone to the bathroom since she gave birth on Thursday morning, then yes I would be concerned. This isn't normal, and I would have her seen by a vet immediately for it. Be sure to take her kittens with you, as they are too young to be left alone for any period of time. I hope this helps!
