My dog pees less on his pad. Should I worry about his health?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | neutered | 4 years old | 5 lbs

My dog used to pee at least 5 times a day in his wee wee pad and now he pees 3 times. What could be wrong with him?

If he is acting normal in every other way, I would not be overly alarmed. I tend to worry if a dog is urinating much *more* than they used to, or is not urinating at all. If you are concerned, you can have him checked by a vet to make sure there is no indication that he is ill and therefore drinking less (and perhaps dehydrated, which could cause him to produce less urine) - but if he is still acting completely normal, this slight decrease in urination is probably within the range of normal. I hope this helps!

Some dogs just have a bad habit such as this and there is no way to fix it unless you clean it up as soon as possible. You may want to have the urine tested to make sure there is no sugar spilling in the urine as this can indicate a medical problem
