Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 35 lbs
my 10 year old dog has been acting strange for the past few days. I stroked his upper back as he was going past and he yelped as if he was in serious pain. This confused me, as he was acting perfectly normal a few hours before when we were on a walk. He had not been under any surgery. I don't know if this has anything to do with the situation, but he swims a lot, almost every day for about 20 minutes. Also, our other dog had gone up to him; made him squeal. He growls and isnt eating. Please help!

I would be concerned that Max is suffering from arthritis. Sometimes like with people a patient will act completely normal and than after exercise like a walk be painful. I would recommend restricted activity for 4-5 days and see how he feels. If he is still painful I would take him to a vet for an x-ray of his back and possible starting pain medications. You can try an over the counter glucosamine and chondroitin supplement with helps with joint inflammation and arthritis formation.
