Dog lethargic, twitching, not walking after eating wood. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 4 days old

My Abbey Gayle was playing outside yesterday around 5pm, when she came in she just started laying around and wouldn't come when I called her so when I checked on her, she was laying on her belly and twitching her back legs. She doesn't want to to walk around or even stand, I am seeing some ant bites on her, but I don't know if something bit her or if she ate something she wasn't supposed to. The day before yesterday she was throwing up pieces of a wooden block my husband gave her.

Hi there, poor Abbey Gayle! If she is having a reaction to some sort of bite or sting, it would be best to have her seen my a veterinarian immediately if he is this lethargic. However, with the information you have provided about her vomiting up pieces of a wooden block I am also worried about a gi perforation. Those sharp wood splinters can actually sometimes perforate through the intestines or stomach and an migrate around. This can lead to an infection in the abdomen of your pup and make her very ill and lethargic as well. I would encourage her to take her in as soon as you can for this as well-she may have a couple of things going on together that are making her very sick. I hope this helps, and my best to you and Abbey Gayle:
