My Pomeranian is scratching raw. Is it allergies or infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | unneutered | 8 lbs

My 7yr old Pomeranian has been scratching like crazy. So much so that he has questions self-report on both of his hips and now is going to this chest. Hit us up buying the areas trying to alleviate the itch. They seem to only irritate him sometimes as he will growl at me if I touch them rarely. Then is immediately remorseful. The thing thing happened last summer when I moved into my new complex and the vet said that it was allergies he gave me some cephlaxin and steroids. Is it safe to give h

There is a character limit on questions submitted to the forum so unfortunately your entire question was not submitted. The last thing that came through was Is it safe to give h..... Please repost with your specific question regarding Nike in shorter words so that we can best help you with his care moving forward. However, if he has a lot of scabs and crusts on his skin he likely has a secondary bacterial infection, which is why antibiotics were recommended. I would suggest asking your vet about trying a new product called Apoquel this time, which is a bit more tolerated than steroids. This will help with the itch and inflammation of the skin. We will be looking out for your new question on the forum if needed. Best wishes and take care.
