What is this black scab or lump on my dog's snout above his nose?

My dog suddenly has a black scab like lesion/lump on his snout above his nose. He isn't scratching it or messing with it, but I am concerned as to what it might be. He is 7, a lab/husky mix and has no prior medical issues. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 years and 4 months old | 80 lbs

This looks like the start of a mass in his skin. Masses around the skin can be cancerous or benign, because if he is location it is good to get them tested asap. Otherwise it may be an infection in the skin or a crust over a scab.
