My 5-month-old puppy is vomiting a lot. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 4 months and 18 days old | 30 lbs

Hi! Our puppy is 5 months old and he has thrown up 7 times in the last few hours. At first it was very orange and kind of chunky, but now it is liquid, yellow and foamy. Should I be concerned or will he be okay?

Poor Thor! Seven times in an hour is rather concerning. I would recommend having him seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible to be sure he hasn't eaten something that has or possibly could get stuck. If they don't find anything he could also benefit from some fluids and maybe something to control the vomiting if he continues to vomit. Hope this helps and Thor feels better soon.

It could be a touch of mild gastritis so I would try starving him for 24hrs then feed him chicken and rice. If the vomiting continues for a few hours or he starts to get dull i would take him to the vet in case something more serious is going on.
