Why is my 3-month-old puppy coughing, gagging, and having diarrhea?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 1 day old | 4 lbs

My 3month old puppy has been coughing and gagging for 2 days now. He also has had diarrhea on and off for a couple of days. He is eating normally. His vet is not open today but he does have an appt. On Tuesday.

Poor Max. Coughing and gagging could be due to a number of things, but most concerning in a young puppy is contagious disease such as "kennel cough" or even pneumonia. Diarrhea may be due to intestinal parasites, a diet change, or stress. Monitor him closely over the weekend. If he stops eating, acts lethargic, the cough progresses, or he develops a fever (99.5 - 102.5 F is normal in dogs), then take him to an emergency vet right away.
