My dog has a burst lump with yellow liquid. Why isn't it healing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Male | 14 years and 5 months old | 55 lbs

It was a big lump which burst, yellowy liquid came out but it doesn't seem to be heeling with liquid still coming out every now and then so obviously this will stop the heeling proses. When lump first appeared vet said just leave it as it was as it wasn't causing him discomfort and still doesn't. He is 14 yr old staffy

Although I can't tell for sure, it is possible that Busta has a ruptured cyst. Cysts often contain thick yellow material that can rupture out when the cyst becomes too full for becomes traumatized. They often don't heal well as the tissue is abnormal and often become infected because dogs will lick or chew at them. I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian. He may need antibiotics or to have the cyst removed.
