My cat occasionally pees outside the litter box. When to see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 years and 2 months old | 10 lbs

My cat has taken to occasionally urinating outside the box.. he will still go to the box but at times he just doesnt. He is not straining to owe, he's not showing signs of pain, there have not been any major cha he's recently. The box is kept clean.. are there any signs I should be watching for that says he needs a vet visit? This is very occasional.. if we leave out reusable bags or every few weeks to once a month. He is about 4 years old

If it becomes more frequent or if you are starting to see some signs of blood in the urine then i would definitely recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it checked. if you see him straining to urinate this would also be a sign to take him to the vet quite urgently.
