My cat ate docusate sodium. Will she be okay or need emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3 years and 6 months old | 6 lbs

My cat somehow opened my pills of docusate sodium. She was licking them, there were 59 in the bottle and after counting them three times i kept counting 57 pills. Is it possible she could have swallowed them? Its 100mg per pill, will she be okay or should i take her to a vet?

It is certainly possible that your kitty could have swallowed them. While there are no specific toxicities listed for cats for this medication, the most likely side effect I suspect you will see is diarrhea. Dehydration can definitely be the result of the diarrhea, so if the diarrhea seems severe it would be prudent to have Alice looked at and rehydrated by a vet. Alice received about four times the recommended dose so definitely keep an eye on her closely for any gastrointestinal upset. Hopefully you'll find the pills laying around somewhere. Hope this helps!
