What's this hole on my dog's scrotum? He won't stop licking it!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | unneutered | 4 years old | 15 lbs

My dog has had swollen testicles for about 2 weeks and then the swelling went down which made me think it was a little bite. Now this popped up today. He is 4 years old and is licking it. Any ideas or advice?

I would recommend taking him to a vet as soon as possible. It looks like in the picture a hole has formed in the scrotum. This could be a ruptures abscess, trauma, neoplasia or parasite. The testicles need a exam along with the prostate. I would recommend a elizabethan collar to prevent licking until you make it to the vet.
