Why is my cat wiping his bum on carpets after moving? Worms again?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 lbs

Hi, we have moved house in the past week and as we need to keep our cat in, we've noticed that he keeps wiping his bum on the carpets and bed. I've read that it could be change in environment as in dust. But also could be worms. He had his worming tablet in the past month though.

Yes, it is possible that Archie has worms and he could need another deworming treatment. When a cat has worms, it takes two deworming treatments given two weeks apart to kill all the worms. The first treatment kills the adult present at the time of the treatment, which the second kills the worms that had not yet hatched when the first treatment was given. This scooting could also be caused by impacted anal sacs, and he may need them expressed. I would take Archie into the vet tomorrow for a physical exam, and the vet can express his anal sacs if needed.
