My dog ate tree lichen. Is it toxic? What symptoms should I watch for?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 70 lbs

Dog just ate some tree lichen a few minutes ago, it wasnt a lot, just wondering if I should be concerned. I tried to get it out of her mouth, but she ran and swallowed it. This is the kind it looked like.

That was naughty of Daedra to eat that tree lichen! This lichen is likely fungus, and while most types of fungi are mildly or non toxic, there are some kinds that can cause severe symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, and abdominal pain. You could take her into a vet now to have vomiting induced with a shot to get the lichen out of her stomach and take away any risk of toxicity. You can also choose to monitor her over the next 24-48 hours, and if you see any of the symptoms I mentioned above, take her into a vet immediately for treatment. I hope this helps!
