How many water bowls for two cats in a two-story home, and where?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Should I have multiple water bowls for my two kitties, and if so, how many? I have a two story household. Also, where should I put the bowls?

I would have at least 1 water bowl on each level of the house. Its very important for cats to have access to water as they can be a little on the dehydrated side even when they are not sick. Put the bowls in quiet, out of the way locations.

It is always good to encourage as much water consumption as possible with cats, so yes multiple bowls are great, and it doesn't matter what location as long as they can easily find and access them. At least two bowls is probably plenty for two cats.

Yes, it's always a good idea to have multiple water bowls for two kittens. I would have two, and keep one upstairs and one downstairs. You can keep the one upstairs in a bathroom and the one downstairs in the kitchen. That way, they have access to water no matter what floor of the home they are on. I hope this helps :-)
