My dog has a paw cyst from an old infection. Can it heal naturally?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Male | neutered | 35 lbs

3 weeks ago my spaniel had a grass seed in his paw for about 24 hours and it caused an infection. Paw swelled considerably but has gone down after treatment with anitbiotics. However, there is still a very small red spot with slight swelling around it that will not go away, which my vet says is a cyst. It is not hurting my dog at all but he is wearing a collar to stop him licking it. Can I safely leave the 'cyst' until it goes away on its own? It is not getting any worse.

I would take your vets advice and give this a chance to heal, if you find that it is no better within a week or is getting worse I would have it examined again as there could potentially be a source of irritation such as a piece of grass seed.
