My cat has flu and won't eat for days; how long can she survive?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 10 months old | 8.4 lbs

My cat has lost appetite, hasn't eaten for 5 days. The vet gave her sub Q fluids as she was also dehydrated. She's been having flu like symptoms for the past 9 days. Her appetite kept decreasing until not wanting to eat anything at all. I've tried different kinds of wet food. She was also given Convenia to treat her flu. I'm just worried how much longer can she hol on without food? I'm taking her back to the vet in about 16 hours from now

A cat that doesn't eat for more than 3 days straight is in great danger of developing a fatty liver syndrome, regardless of the cause of the anorexia. Panchita must have a blood test done and will need to be hospitalized for intensive care urgently, otherwise her prognosis will be very bad.
